Being deeply rooted in both, I established Sylo Planning to serve my community and anyone who wishes to improve their current financial situation.

Pronounced Sai-Lo, it means 'younger brother' in Cantonese. As the youngest kid, it’s the nickname I never asked for and will absolutely never outgrow. To this day, it's the only thing my relatives call me—so I decided to hang it on the door.

THE ORIGIN STORY

I grew up in a Chinese immigrant household where the "American Dream" was singular and focused—my parents’ #1 goal was to own a home. Like so many others, they grinded 7 days a week, picking up extra shifts to scrape together every cent to give us a better life. To make that happen, my sister and I were sent back to Guangzhou, China to live with my grandparents during those early years. I credit this decision for still maintaining my fluency in Cantonese. When we finally relocated from the Bronx to Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn and I started Pre-K in 1997, my biggest culture shock was honestly just... man, where the heck are the afternoon naps during school?

THE TURNING POINT

We didn't have much financial literacy growing up; we really had to figure it out on our own. But in high school, I was fortunate enough to learn the concept of compound interest and the stock market. That scratched my brain a little. The second I turned 18, I opened my first brokerage account and invested the only $300 I had to my name. Several years later, I was maxing out my retirement accounts, became an out of state real estate investor and continue to accumulate properties for cash flow.

THE PHILOSOPHY

With over a decade in wealth management, I’ve learned to realize the importance of wealth is to buy your time back. Cherishing moments with your friends and family should not be taken for granted. You will hear annoying numerous travel stories and inspiration from me, as well as just sharing random historical facts. Also, as a non-certified Foodie, please send me recommendations of good eats around the world—we'll exchange notes.
